Product Description
Large scale model car decals are waterslide markings produced for 1/18, 1/12 and 1/8 display models, where a single badge or gauge face is large enough that printing faults and wrong line weights are immediately visible - so artwork has to be rebuilt for the scale rather than enlarged from a smaller sheet.
Why big scales need different artwork
Scaling a 1/24 sheet up to 1/18 does not work. Line weights grow with the artwork, so fine script becomes chunky and outlines that looked correct on a small body read as heavy on a large one. At 1/12 and 1/8 the opposite problem appears: detail that was never drawn becomes obvious when a logo is 20 mm wide.
- Rebuilt typography: lettering re-set at true proportions for the larger body, not merely enlarged
- Correct stroke weights: outlines and pinstripes thinned or thickened per scale
- More detail, not bigger detail: extra elements added where the area now allows
- Panel-accurate fit: stripe and livery lengths measured against your specific shell
What we print for large displays
- Complete racing liveries with sponsor clusters and number panels
- Bonnet, boot and roof graphics, including complex multi-colour schemes
- Badges, model script, engine callouts and trim tags
- Interior details: gauge faces with numerals, radio and switch fascias, seat logos
- Tyre sidewall lettering and tread shoulder markings
- Underhood labels, warning stickers and chassis plates
- Number plates, tax discs and windscreen stickers
Interior and engine bay work
At 1/12 the cockpit and engine bay are exhibition areas. Gauge faces are printed with individual numerals and needles at the correct sweep, switch labels sit at readable size, and underhood tags carry legible text rather than grey blocks. Send photos of the real interior and we lay the set out for your kit's dash layout.
Film, ink and clear coat
All markings use ultra-thin waterslide film with a spot white underlay where needed, and are sealed with a clear coat matched to your finish - gloss for showroom builds, satin or matte for weathered and race-worn subjects. Inks are RoHS compliant and stable under display lighting.
Installation on large surfaces
On a 1/18 or 1/12 body, large graphics are easier to place wet. We supply a placement guide showing panel reference points, and pre-cut the sheet at shut lines where a continuous stripe would otherwise bridge a door gap. Setting solution is recommended for compound curves around arches and spoilers.
Ordering and lead times
Send kit brand and scale plus reference photos or artwork. A digital proof with placement guide comes back within 24 hours on working days. Samples take 5 to 7 days, and larger sheets are packed flat in a rigid tube or hard envelope to arrive unbent.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a 1/24 decal sheet scaled up to 1/18?
Technically yes, but the result usually looks wrong: line weights and script become too heavy. We rebuild the artwork at 1/18 proportions instead, which keeps fine details in scale with the larger body.
Do you print gauge faces for 1/12 interiors?
Yes. Gauge faces are printed with separate numerals, tick marks and needles, laid out to the sweep of your kit dash. Send a photo of the real cluster or the kit part and we match the layout.
How are large sheets packed for shipping?
Sheets above A4 are shipped flat in a rigid envelope or tube with a cardboard backing, never folded. That prevents creases that would show through the clear coat on a large display model.
Is white underlay needed on dark bodies at this scale?
For white, yellow, red or any bright graphic going onto a dark body, yes. At large scale a translucent graphic is very obvious, so we add a spot white underlay by default on those elements.
Can you supply replacement decals for a built model?
Yes. Tell us the kit and which markings you need replaced, and we reprint just those elements. If you still have the original sheet we can match colours from a photo of the applied decal.
What is the minimum order for 1/12 or 1/8 decals?
One set is acceptable. Because the sheet area is larger, a single 1/12 build often fills an A4 sheet on its own. Repeat orders and multi-kit packs are quoted at a lower unit price.
