Product Description
Custom decals for model military aircraft are precision-printed transfers that reproduce tactical codes, low-visibility insignia, serial numbers and airframe stencils on ultra-thin film, giving scale military builds the accurate, service-worn markings that generic kit decals never provide. From WWII fighters to modern grey airframes, correct markings are what make a military model read as authentic.
What Are Military Aircraft Model Decals?
Military aircraft model decals are water-slide transfers printed on thin carrier film. After soaking in water, the film slides onto the airframe and conforms to panel lines, control surfaces and compound curves. Once sealed under clear coat the carrier disappears and the markings look painted on. Covering national insignia, squadron and tail codes, serials, buzz numbers, warning stencils and nose art, these decals replace the simplified or inaccurate markings often supplied in boxed kits.
Modern Low-Visibility vs High-Contrast Markings
Marking style changed dramatically after the 1970s, and matching the right style is critical to an accurate build. Our prepress matches tones to FS 595 references so subdued markings sit correctly on grey airframes instead of standing out like decals from a different era.
| Marking style | Appearance | Typical era | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| High-contrast national insignia | Full-colour roundels, stars, crosses | WWII to 1960s | Strong contrast against camouflage |
| Low-visibility insignia | Tone-on-tone grey, subdued outlines | 1970s onward | Matched to FS 595 grey references |
| Tactical codes and serials | Tail codes, buzz numbers, nose numbers | All eras | Sized and spaced to the airframe |
| Stencils and warnings | Micro text, rescue and servicing marks | All eras | Printed sharp at micro size |
Aircraft Types We Cover
- Fighters - WWII props, Korean and Vietnam jets, modern multirole types
- Bombers and attack - from period heavies to modern strike aircraft
- Transports and patrol - airlifters, maritime patrol, tankers
- Helicopters and UAVs - gunships, utility types and drones
Weathering and In-Service Realism
Aircraft markings in service fade, chalk and stain. We can print sun-bleached, chalked and dirt-streaked versions for diorama and in-service builds, or supply crisp gloss markings and let you weather them with washes and pigments for full control. Panel-line washes work best over a sealed decal, so sealing before weathering is recommended.
Application on Aircraft Models
- Apply over a glossy clear-coated surface for best adhesion.
- Cut out each marking, soak in water for 20-30 seconds and slide into position.
- Use a setting solution on curved surfaces, then blot water and work out air bubbles.
- Allow each marking to dry fully before applying the next.
- Seal the finished airframe with clear coat to protect the markings and unify the finish.
How to Order
- Send reference photos or documentation, the aircraft type and scale.
- We redraw the markings and quote within 24 hours.
- Approve a digital proof before production.
- Samples in 5-7 days, bulk production in 7-15 days with export documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which military aircraft scales can you print decals in?
All common scales including 1/144, 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32, plus custom sizes for unusual subjects. A single master file can be output across several scales so one set of markings serves your whole range.
Can you reproduce low-visibility grey and tactical markings?
Yes. Modern low-vis insignia, tone-on-tone tactical codes and subdued serials are matched to FS 595 colour references so the markings sit correctly against modern grey airframes instead of looking too contrasty.
Do you print serial numbers, buzz numbers and nose art?
Yes. Serial numbers, buzz numbers, squadron codes, tail markings, airframe stencils and period nose art are all reproduced. Send reference photos from several angles, or we can work from documented squadron records.
What eras and aircraft types do you cover?
WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Cold War, Gulf War and modern subjects are all common requests, covering fighters, bombers, transports, maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters and UAVs.
Will the decals settle over recessed panel lines on wings and fuselage?
The ultra-thin carrier is designed to conform to recessed detail. Apply over a glossy clear coat, use a setting solution on curved surfaces and seal with clear coat to eliminate silvering around panel lines and rivets.
What is the lead time for military aircraft decals?
Samples take 5-7 days after artwork approval and bulk production runs 7-15 days depending on quantity. Custom marking redraws add 2-3 days to the artwork stage.
