Product Description
Custom waterslide decals for helmets are ultra-thin transfer graphics printed with team logos, sponsor marks, rider names or full liveries, designed to conform to curved shells and seal under clear coat for a durable, painted-on finish. They are widely used by race teams, clubs, helmet painters and brands producing limited editions.
What Are Helmet Decals?
Helmet decals are water-transfer graphics printed on thin carrier film. After soaking in water, the film slides onto the helmet shell and conforms to its compound curves, vents and recessed areas. Once dry and clear-coated, the film edge disappears and the graphics look painted on, which is why waterslide decals are preferred over vinyl stickers for helmets.
Why Waterslide Instead of Vinyl
| Factor | Waterslide decal | Vinyl sticker |
|---|---|---|
| Edge visibility | Disappears under clear coat | Visible raised edge |
| Curved surfaces | Conforms to compound curves | Wrinkles or lifts |
| Durability | Sealed into the finish | Can peel at edges |
| Finish quality | Factory painted look | Applied look |

Materials, Inks and Durability
Decals are printed with UV-stable CMYK inks plus white underlay on premium waterslide film. White base or spot white is standard for dark shells, keeping colors vivid on black, matte and tinted helmets. Gloss and matte finishes are available to match the shell, and the decals are designed to be sealed under clear coat for resistance to sunlight, rain, fuel spills and cleaning.
Application on Helmets
- Clean and degrease the shell, then key and clear-coat the area if required.
- Cut out the decal, soak in water for 20-30 seconds and slide into position.
- Use a setting solution on tight curves, then blot and work out air bubbles.
- Allow at least 24 hours to dry fully.
- Apply clear coat in thin layers and cure according to the paint system used.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the decals conform to curved helmet shells?
Yes. Ultra-thin waterslide film stretches and settles over compound curves, vents and recessed detail when used with a setting solution. For very tight curves, we recommend several smaller decals rather than one large piece.
Are the inks UV stable for outdoor use?
UV-stable ink options are available, and sealing the decals under a clear coat adds further protection against sunlight, fuel spills and cleaning chemicals. Tell us the intended use so we select the right material.
Will the decals affect helmet safety or certification?
Custom graphics are applied to the outer shell and do not alter the protective liner or straps. We recommend confirming with your helmet brand or certifying body if markings are for a homologated race helmet.
Can you print team kits and sponsor logos?
Yes. We regularly print team graphics, sponsor logos, rider names and numbers for clubs, race teams and events. Multiple designs can be nested on one sheet to keep costs low for small clubs.
What base should I use on a black helmet?
Use white base, or spot white behind the artwork, on black and dark shells. Clear base alone will let the dark shell show through the inks and mute the colors.
How resistant are the decals to cleaning?
Once sealed under clear coat, decals resist normal cleaning, rain and road spray. Avoid aggressive solvents and abrasive polishes directly on unsealed decals, and always clear-coat before regular use.
