Product Description
Custom waterslide decals for bicycle frames are ultra-thin transfer graphics printed with brand logos, model names and tubing decals, designed to dissolve visually under clear lacquer for a factory-painted look. They are used by frame builders, paint shops and restorers who need authentic branding that survives the finishing process.
What Are Bicycle Frame Decals?
Bicycle frame decals are water-transfer graphics applied to painted frame tubes before the final clear coat. Because the carrier film is extremely thin, it settles over round tubing and shaped profiles, then disappears under lacquer so the graphics look painted on rather than stuck on. This is the same method used by production frame makers for decades.
Where Decals Go on a Frame
| Location | Typical graphic | Typical size |
|---|---|---|
| Down tube | Main brand logo | 150-350 mm long |
| Seat tube | Model or brand name | 80-200 mm |
| Top tube | Model name, signatures | 80-200 mm |
| Chainstay / fork | Tubing and material decals | Micro to 60 mm |
Materials and Finish Compatibility
Decals are printed on premium clear or white waterslide film with CMYK plus white ink. Metallic gold, silver and copper options are available for classic and vintage frames, and Pantone matching keeps brand colors accurate across repaints. The film is compatible with common frame finishes including polyurethane and acrylic clear coats when applied and sealed correctly.
- Ultra-thin carrier that vanishes under lacquer
- Micro text capability for tubing and material markings
- Metallic and Pantone options for period-correct restorations
- Custom die-cut shapes that follow your artwork outline
Application and Clear Coating
- Paint and cure the frame, then level the area where decals will sit.
- Cut out each decal, soak in water for 20-30 seconds and slide into position.
- Align, blot water and work out air bubbles along the tube curvature.
- Let the frame dry fully, ideally overnight.
- Build up thin clear coats over the decals, then polish so the edges disappear.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the decals work on steel, aluminium and carbon frames?
Yes. The film conforms to round and shaped tubing on steel, aluminium, titanium and carbon frames. On carbon, use a compatible clear coat system and avoid aggressive solvents that may affect the resin.
Can you reproduce decals for a vintage frame restoration?
Yes. Send clear photos of the original decals plus tube diameters and we will redraw the logo, model name and tubing graphics to match the period. Restorations for single frames are welcome.
Will the film edge show after clear coating?
Clear-base film is designed to disappear under lacquer. Once several thin clear coats are built up and polished, the carrier edge blends into the finish and the graphics look painted on.
What sizes and shapes can you print?
Down tube logos are typically 150-350 mm long, seat tube and top tube decals 80-200 mm, and small tubing graphics and model names can be micro-sized. Custom shapes follow your artwork outline.
Do you offer metallic and Pantone-matched colors?
Yes. Metallic gold, silver and copper effects are available for classic frames, and Pantone matching keeps brand colors accurate across repaints and touch-ups.
What is the minimum order?
MOQs are flexible. A single-frame restoration can be produced as a small sheet, while frame builders and paint shops ordering repeat sets receive better unit pricing.
